LIFE IN NEW YORK CITY ---------------------- Getting out of Los Angeles was a near blessing to me. Majority of my family has lived there for generations and I was getting tired of the boring routine. Monday through Friday I worked a nine or ten hour shift trying to impress a boss that didn’t give a shit about me or my hard work, Saturdays were generally used for my dates with Carryn whenever we weren’t fighting (which was rare) and then Sundays were the dreadful family outings sponsored by my mom. After living there for twenty three years I couldn’t stand to be around anyone. I was in desperate need of a new life and a new job. My bachelor’s degree was in architectural design but at my previous work place I was only an office assistant or sometimes a manager. I wasn’t doing the work I dreamed of as a kid, so for a week straight I searched around potential jobs. No one was hiring this big of a position except in the larger cities. I didn’t want to completely abandon my life in Los Angeles but seemed that it was the only option. New York City was where my eldest sister and her small family were residing, and she encouraged me to search around there. For years they were trying to get me to come out and visit the area, each time we talked on the phone she would boast about how much the city screamed my name. My west coast pride was holding on though, refusing to let the sunny palm tree vision of mine go. The adjective stubborn should have my name under its definition because after three months of complaining I applied for a job in New York City. I didn’t tell Carryn, which didn’t help our relationship at the time/ We had been together since she was eighteen, when her gorgeous face made its way in to town. Our relationship was under the friendship category but our flirting would sometimes take another route. She trusted me so much, I don’t understand why but we ended up hooking up – me claiming her virginity. I knew her circumstances and only reassured her that we didn’t have to go to this level but it was her wishes. Within two weeks, I received word from the company I applied too; I had been offered my dream job only this time it was in New York City. This is the point where I sat Carryn down and explained to her my situation. Despite her encouragement of happiness I couldn’t help but feel she was a little disappointed in me. We swore up and down that we would stick together, make our relationship work even though we were thousands of miles apart. Three months in to my new job, she broke up with me. I saw it coming to be honest, she was getting distracted all of the time and we rarely spoke on the phone like we did when I first moved out here. New York City has been great for me, I’ve made some killer buds and babes but occasionally Carryn is still haunting the back of my mind. I’m recently up for a new project with the help of my two co-workers, we’ve got big plans and I’m excited to enhance them.
